Purpose of Institutional Effectiveness

Lebanon Valley College is committed to assessing how well it is achieving its mission and goals, particularly student learning goals.  Thoughtful, intentional and systematic assessments result in informed planning and resource allocations that improve student learning and invigorate the institution. 

 

Institutional Effectiveness Committee 

Mission

The Institutional Effectiveness Committee (IEC) is charged with assessing how effectively each unit's goals contribute to the College's strategic goals; how successfully each unit is achieving its goals; and how well each unit supports the institutional mission.  The IEC advances a culture of assessment where assessment finding is used to allocate resources, plan program needs, demonstrate student learning, enhance innovative teaching, and strengthen curriculum and College programs.

 

Duties

•  Review the Institutional Effectiveness Plan (IEP)
• Assess how well the IEP is being implemented
• Guide the institution's assessment processes by facilitating the timeliness of each assessment, gauging the effectiveness of each assessment, and monitoring how assessment results are used
• Provide appropriate and adequate tools to all unit heads to assist with assessment practices, including methods to assess the effectiveness of their assessments
• Where warranted, determine the validity of assessment strategies and the reliability of instruments and evidence
• Communicate the committee's findings with College stakeholders and make recommendations for improvements
• Recommend content to be shared on the institutional effectiveness site
• Submit an annual report to the College President

 

 Membership

• The associate dean of academic affairs (co-chair)
• The associate dean of student affairs (co-chair)
• Two faculty members appointed by the President to staggered two-year terms (nominees provided by the Steering Committee of the faculty)
• Two administrators appointed by the President to staggered two-year terms (nominees provided by the senior leadership)
• The director of institutional research
