LVC students will live at the international student residence at East China Normal University. Students stay in shared rooms with a private bathroom. Students are responsible for preparing their own meals. Kitchens are located in each residence hall to prepare food, or students can pay per meal to eat in the dining hall located in the residence hall.

Students will take courses at a study center located at East China Normal University. Students will enroll in a Mandarin language course, plus 3 – 4 additional courses. The courses examine the development and role of a global China over recent years, with a focus on their history, culture, business and politics.

A challenging part-time internship in a variety of disciplines is available to students, at all levels of language ability, in businesses, non-profits and non-government agencies.

By far the most exciting academic aspect of this program is opportunity for students in any major field of study to participate in a part-time internship. Placements in English or Mandarin language are available. The Academic Director of the study abroad program, a writer for local Chinese newspapers with a background in economics and political science, personally places and supervises students in a variety of placement sites. Fields available for internships include: advertising, art/museum management, business administration, financial research, I.T. and web design, marketing, print/web media, public relations and social media networking and gaming. Students will work for 15 – 20 hours a week. Internship placement sites include American-owned companies, transnational companies and Chinese companies that appreciate English speakers.

Financial Aid Policy

Most LVC students will receive his/her financial aid in full for all semester-long study abroad and study away programs. Exceptions: Allwein scholars will receive 50% of their full tuition scholarship for semester-long study abroad and study away programs. The $2,500/year stipend may be used to supplement the reduction in scholarship. Tuition Exchange and Tuition Remission recipients will receive the value of the Mary A. Weiss Scholarship for semester-long study abroad programs. The value will be equivalent to the value awarded to the same year’s incoming class. For example, if the student will be studying abroad in spring 2020, the Mary A. Weiss Scholarship will be the same value that was awarded to the incoming class for 2019-2020 academic year.

Fall Semester

• Applications should be received by March 15
• $25 deposit is due with application.*

*The $500 program deposit will be credited to student accounts in the Business Office for the start of the off-campus semester. The $500 deposit will be forfeited on student withdrawal from the program.
