This 4-week summer program is offered to students in any major who have completed at least two years of college-level German language.
Würzburg is a small university town in Bavaria. The city was founded by Christianized Franks and has become the principal city in the Franconia region. It is a railroad junction, an industrial center, and the commercial hub of an agricultural region noted for its vineyards. Students will enjoy the outstanding examples of baroque architecture, paintings and sculpture abundant throughout the medieval city center.
This program combines daily intensive classroom instruction with organized cultural activities and excursions. Students will enroll in a 6-credit advanced German course that can be applied toward a major or minor in German. The course is taught by experienced German faculty from LVC.
There is a mandatory set of pre-departure orientations at Lebanon Valley College for all students planning to participate in the program.
Students are housed in single occupancy efficiency apartments on University of Würzburg's campus. The program provides a declining-balance card for university cafeterias.
Classes will be held in the mornings at the Katholische Hochschulgemeinde, Würzburg. Students will earn four credits in an advanced German course that will strengthen conversational and compositional skills through analysis of significant historical and current issues in German society. Class work will also emphasize practice with idiomatic expressions and expansion of German vocabulary. Students will read a major literary work in German, in addition to examining various media including press, television, film, and music.
Program cost for Summer 2020 is $3650 and will cover tuition (6 credits), housing, field trips, books, transportation to and from the airport, and health insurance.
Food, airfare, independent travel, and personal expenses are NOT included in the program cost. Fees are subject to change.
Limited scholarships are available for this summer study abroad program.
