An Economics Major for Government or Private Sector Achievement

Prepare for a career in economics that sets you apart and makes you highly marketable throughout the United States and the world. In courses that help you understand business operations through economic theory, micro- and macroeconomics, comparative economic systems, and quantitative analytical methods you’ll become career-ready, whether your professional goal is to get a job with a government agency, U.S. embassy, geopolitical think tank, or global business leader.

Build a career—with a median salary of more than $100,000 in 2017 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics—by learning from experts in the field and through engaged coursework, active simulations (such as the European Union project in Washington, D.C.), and immersive internships ranging from a microfinance experience in Uganda to working with international trade experts at the World Trade Center of Harrisburg. And, our economics program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs

Enhance your career prospects by studying abroad or adding a second major or minor in one of our related programs: accounting, analytical finance, business administration, global studies, or international business. Follow your personal career path or connect with recent graduates who are employed throughout the U.S. in a variety of roles with companies such as Towers Watson, The Hershey Company, Black Rock LLC, U.S. Department of Labor, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Others pursued graduate study at Columbia University, Lehigh University, University of Rhode Island, University of New Hampshire, and Virginia Tech University.

Economics Internships

Our faculty want you to understand—and master—complex systems that are a feature of today’s global economy. In the classroom, you’ll learn how societies produce, distribute, and consume goods and services. Through internships and related experiences, you’ll apply this knowledge and gain first-hand expertise, leading to improved career prospects and opportunities.

You’ll impress potential employers with your critical thinking and analytical skills, knowledge of economic theories and their application, intellectual flexibility and versatility, and motivation. And, you’ll learn an assertive and active approach to launching and managing your career and first job.

Work closely with a faculty advisor and your assigned mentor in our Breen Center for Graduate Success, which will equip you with the skills needed to launch your career with confidence and clarity.

LVC interns receive high scores in problem-solving, decision-making, and presentation skills from employers, which means you'll be part of a proud and successful tradition in leadership training. Many of our majors receive job offers from their internship company after graduation.
