Medical Laboratory Science students partake in experiments to further their knowledge in the science and medical fields

About The Program

In this combined program, students spend their first three years on campus, while their senior year is spent off-campus at an accredited hospital school of medical technology. It is the student’s responsibility to apply and become accepted into a hospital program. LVC has affiliations with three National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science clinical sites: Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Laboratory Science Program (Hershey, Pa.), Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences (Lancaster, Pa.), and WellSpan York Hospital

Students benefit from the state-of-the-art Neidig-Garber Science Center, which has dedicated undergraduate research facilities. Courses are oriented toward lab and field experiences, and the use of modern instrumentation. LVC medical laboratory science graduates are well prepared to work in a clinical medical laboratory performing analysis, diagnostic, and treatment functions.

Why LVC?

  • Medical laboratory science majors spend three years at LVC taking courses to fulfill the requirements of the College and of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Before or during the third year of the program, medical laboratory science majors apply to a hospital with a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) approved school of medical technology. They spend their fourth year in training at that institution. Admission is not automatic and depends on academic record, recommendations, and an interview.
  • Medical laboratory science majors are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from LVC after completing their fourth, or clinical, year.
  • LVC has official affiliations with three hospital-based schools of medical technology: Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Laboratory Science Program, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, and WellSpan York Hospital. However, medical laboratory science majors are not limited to these affiliations and may seek acceptance at other approved hospitals.

I was looking for a college that was strong academically in the natural sciences, and also strong in music, and I also kept open the idea of playing field hockey, so all of those things brought me to LVC.
