Carissa was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Fulbright Scholar Program is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, a division of the United States State Department. Carissa worked with scholars at Pondicherry University in Tamil Nadu, India in her study of the utopian commune established on the ideals of the early 20th century Indian reformer Sri Aurobindo.
