Allwein scholars pose outside of Mund College Center

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. John “Jack” Bowman Allwein ’56, several outstanding students are awarded the prestigious John Bowman Allwein Scholarship each year. The full-tuition scholarship is awarded annually for the student’s four undergraduate years. In addition to the full-tuition scholarship, Allwein Scholars receive three $2,500 stipends during their time at LVC for research, travel, or study expenses associated with study abroad, internships, and/or collaborative research.

Allwein Scholars have used their stipends toward the following experiences:

  • Summer internship with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga.
  • Cultural Tourism trip to Costa Rica through efcollegebreaks.com
  • Summer internships with major actuarial firms throughout the Northeast
  • Travel to academic conferences
  • Pre-Med Fellowship abroad through the Atlantis Project
  • Enrollment in non-credit Electronic Engineering courses, purchase of supplies and equipment, and dedicated work space for student learning to build and repair electronic music equipment
  • Purchase of necessary supplies for student to build his own computer necessary for completion of advanced summer research project through math program.
  • Trip to Spain with LVC soccer team
  • Trip to Hilton Head, S.C. with LVC tennis team

In addition to the scholarship and stipend, Allwein Scholars are mentored by a dedicated faculty mentor, Dr. Jeff Robbins, as well as by an academic advisor.

Allwein Scholars are selected from a pool of accepted students based on a thorough review of all credentials. Allwein Scholars complete a rigorous schedule of high school coursework with an A average and a rank among the top of their class, show a commitment to out-of-class activity, and demonstrate interest in Lebanon Valley College.

The John Bowman Allwein Scholars Program is the College’s most prestigious honor for incoming freshmen and is named in honor of the late U.S. Army veteran and well-known oral surgeon. Dr. Bowman’s legacy includes the largest estate gift to the College in its history, as well as the establishment of several additional named scholarships that support additional LVC students each year.
