At least two service trips are planned each academic year with most trips fulfilling one Immersive Experience requirement. Trips vary from year to year so that students may have the opportunity to engage in both domestic and international experiences that focus on different areas of service and learning.

Upcoming Trips

Washington D.C.: Spring Break, March 1-6, 2020

Partnering with Amizade, a global service-learning group with more than 25 years of experience, 10–12 students and two staff members will participate in a service trip to Washington, D.C., to better understand and address issues of hunger and homelessness.

Cost: About $600 per person, which covers all lodging, meals, transportation, program fees, and outings. The trip fulfills the residential service project requirement for the Gold Service Award and one Immersive Experience requirement.

Northern Ireland: July 25 - August 1, 2020

Partnering with Amizade, a global service-learning group with more than 25 years of experience, 10–12 students and two staff members will participate in a service trip to Northern Ireland where they will serve in youth centers and work to better understand issues of conflict and reconciliation that are part of the country’s history.

Cost: About $2,300-2,500 per person, which covers all lodging, meals, airfare, ground transportation, program fees, and outings. The trip fulfills the residential service project requirement for the Gold Service Award and one Immersive Experience requirement.

Past Trips

LVC Students build greenhouses in Peru during service trip

Peru (May 2019)

Students traveled to Peru for a week of service and cultural immersion. Living in Misminay for most of the trip, the group taught English to children and built and planted a greenhouse in order to establish a sustainable food source for the community. The group also visited Machu Picchu.

LVC Students working with Outreach360 program in the Dominican-Republic

Dominican Republic (January and March 2019)

Students traveled to Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic to work with Outreach360, an organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to underserved children in Latin America.

LVC Students in Puerto Rico for Service Trip

Puerto Rico (May 2018)

Students participated in a week of environmental restoration as they cleaned up and replanted mangrove forests following Hurricane Maria. They also painted a school and delivered basic care items to local residents.

Focusing on issues of food insecurity and poverty, students served with a variety of organizations such as DC Central Kitchen, Capital Area Food Bank, A Wider Circle and more.
