"The first woman was created from the rib of a man. She was not made from his head to top him, nor from his feet to trample him, but out of his side to be equal to him."

–Oliver Wendell Holmes

Rooted in Equality: Who We Are

Lebanon Valley College has a long tradition of equity between the sexes. At its founding in 1866, LVC was a co-educational institution – the first co-ed institution east of the Allegheny Mountains and a true rarity in the United States at the time. Founded on the belief that men and women were equally important and valuable members of the academic community, Lebanon Valley stood head and shoulders above the rest and continues to stand for equal value of its male and female administration, faculty, staff, and most importantly, students. This concern for gender issues will continue as Lebanon Valley College continues to support the Women's Services and Gender Resource Center.
