Held each summer at Lebanon Valley College, our Health & Biomedical Science Camps provide high school students with a window into the scientific basis of human health.
The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp will be held from July 26-31, 2020.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Courtney Lappas, camp director, if you have any questions! Dr. Lappas can be reached at 717-867-6179 or lappas@lvc.edu.
The camp fee for the week is $1,000. This cost includes lodging, meals, laboratory supplies, lecture materials, and evening activities.
The camp is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
There is no formal application deadline, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Because the number of spaces is limited (in order to facilitate close collaborations between students, faculty, guest speakers, and Resident Advisors), it is advised that applications be submitted as soon as possible. Registration will close when the camp is full.
Notification of camp acceptance will be sent via email as soon as applications have been reviewed, which is typically several weeks after application submission. Accompanying a notification of acceptance will be instructions for the submission of payment, as well as a request for information regarding medication, allergies, and/or special needs or accommodations of the camper. Please note that when the camp has been filled applicants may be placed on a wait-list; notification of wait-list status will be sent via email.
Full refunds will be issued for a camper cancellation before May 1, 2020; from May 1 to June 1, 2020, there will be a 50% refund. No refunds will be offered for a camper cancellation after June 1, 2020. In the unlikely event of a camp cancellation, full refunds will be issued.
Check-in time for the camp will be from 3-4 p.m. Sunday, July 26 and check-out will be at noon Friday, July 31.
Students should bring linens, towels, toiletries, clothes, etc. Computer access will be provided for all camp activities, however, students are welcome to bring their own laptop or tablet if they wish. Although all meals will be provided, campers may wish to bring snacks and/or drinks to keep in their residence hall. The cost of all activities and meals is included with camp tuition, but campers may wish to bring money for College Store purchases or souvenirs. Additional information regarding what to bring to camp will be forwarded on notification of acceptance to the camp.
Campers will live in a college residence hall with Resident Advisors. Resident Advisors are current LVC science majors who have been selected by the camp director based on their expertise in the sciences, as well as their maturity and experience mentoring younger students. The residence hall will be locked at all times, Lebanon Valley College public safety officers are on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week, and the camp director may be contacted at any time by Resident Assistants.
Parents/guardians will be contacted in case of any injury or illness to their child. In emergency situations, the safe transport of campers to the nearest hospital will be ensured.
Yes! The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp is designed to enhance campers’ knowledge of the scientific basis of human health, stimulate their critical thinking skills, and offer them a glimpse of college life.
