$1 Million Pledged Toward Arnold Health Professions Pavilion at Lebanon Valley College

Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, President of Lebanon Valley College, announced a combined $1 million gift commitment toward the $20 million Jeanne and Edward H. Arnold Health Professions Pavilion, set to open in Summer 2018. The pledge from The S. Dale High Family Foundation and Gregory A. High, a 1992 graduate and member of the College’s Board of Trustees, comes in response to a $10 million challenge set by Jeanne and Edward Arnold in April 2016.

The Arnold Health Professions Pavilion will house Lebanon Valley College’s academic programs related to the health professions—athletic training, communication sciences & disorders, exercise science, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology—as well as other healthcare-related majors under consideration by the faculty. The new facility will enable the College to educate and train future health practitioners at a time when the sector is projected to add five million new U.S. jobs by 2022. The programs will focus on innovative and technology-infused teaching, experiential learning, interdisciplinary and external partnerships, and research. 

“On behalf of the College’s board of trustees, faculty, and students, I express my sincere gratitude for this generous commitment,” said Dr. Thayne. “This facility will be a valuable addition to the College and region, promoting the health professions at a time in our history when such jobs are in unprecedented demand. The students trained and educated in this facility will better our society.” 

In addition to a scholarship program for children of High company co-workers, The S. Dale High Family Foundation, formerly The High Foundation, supports numerous organizations in Lancaster County and South-Central Pennsylvania. The Foundation has a strong interest in capital building projects and generally contributes in the categories of education, social services, and cultural enrichment. In addition, the Foundation has supported LVC students and faculty dating back to 1989 and has provided gifts to enhance academics, capital projects, and The Valley Fund for nearly three decades. 

In 2010, the family established two new foundations to succeed The High Foundation, including The S. Dale High Family Foundation, of which S. Dale High serves as Chair of the Board. Suzanne High is Vice Chair and Robin Stauffer is Executive Director. The S. Dale High Family Foundation and its predecessor, The High Foundation, have supported more than 250 organizations since its inception in 1980.

Gregory A. High ’92, is an owner and Director of the High companies headquartered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as well as Founder and President of the GH Family Business Consulting Group LLC. Greg High graduated cum laude from Lebanon Valley College with a B.S. in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management. He received the Achievement Scholarship Award in Management as an undergraduate and was a member of the College’s radio station, WLVC. Today, he is a member of the College’s Board of Trustees, serving on the Finance & Administration Committee and the Governance Committee.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in May 2017 for the pavilion, which will provide capacity for 300 additional students and fortify the College’s leadership as an educator in the health sciences.
