The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation awarded Lebanon Valley College a $460,000 grant to increase financial aid through the College’s Stabler Scholarship Fund. The Stabler Fund reduces loans for high-achieving, low-income students and their families, and do not need to be paid back to the College. This year, 31 students from central and eastern Pennsylvania received need-based Stabler Scholarships as part of their financial aid packages. The new gift will enable LVC to support an even greater number of scholarship recipients. | Related story: LVC Invited to Join American Talent Initiative.
“Lebanon Valley College is the first-choice school for many of our region’s brightest students. Thanks to the Stabler Scholarship, we can recognize their achievements and provide vital financial assistance to help our students’ dreams become reality,” said Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, LVC president.
Since LVC received its first grant from the foundation in 2009, the College has provided nearly $700,000 to 96 Stabler Scholars, The fund currently stands at $4.38 million, making it the largest endowed scholarship fund at Lebanon Valley College.
Stabler Scholarship recipient Duncan Keller ’20 knew he wanted to become a mathematics major and participate in campus music organizations, but he was concerned about paying for college. “I talked to the LVC assistant dean, who referred me to financial aid,” he said. The Stabler Scholarship is an important part of his aid package. “I love it here,” said Keller. “I consider myself very, very lucky.”
Stabler Scholars are encouraged to make charitable donations back to the College once they have graduated to pay forward the generosity of the Stabler Foundation and all those who support scholarship funds. To date, 58 LVC Stabler Scholarship recipients have graduated, and nearly half have donated back to the alma mater already.
