Gallery Exhibit Installation Features Light, Sound, and Artwork to Explore Moments of Transition

The Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery’s exhibition, Edges | Transitions, explores the moments of transition when one thing moves into another; the place where edges dissolve. The exhibition is inspired by Pat Badt and Scott Sherk’s recent artist residency in Valletta, Malta. As an island, Malta is a continuous edge. Sharp cliffs define the edge of water and land, cultural conditions define an edge between Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. Its geographic location and long history of conflict have defined it as a place of transition.

This exhibition includes audio work, large-scale video, and color interventions, along with individual color studies and a small-scale video and sound piece, to create an intriguing installation environment. Viewers are invited to occupy a central viewing station (an island) to encounter a horizon of color, video, and sound events.

Badt and Sherk have collaborated on many projects and exhibited their works individually and together, in numerous venues, such as The Lab Gallery and the Katonah Museum of Art, both in New York. Their website, The Third Barn (thethirdbarn.com), features some of their collaborations. Badt is professor emeritus, Cedar Crest College, and Sherk is an artist-in-residence at Muhlenberg College.

Edges | Transitions will be on display from April 6 to May 21, 2017. An artist talk will be held in the Gallery on Thursday, April 6 at 4:30 p.m., to be followed by an opening reception from 5–7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
