Henry Devorick Named VALE Artist of the Year: Will Open for We The Kings

Like many young children, Henry Devorick ’20 started taking piano lessons in kindergarten. As he grew through the years, so did his musical talents, which expanded to include learning how to play bass guitar and percussion.

Those musical talents were on full display at VALE Music Group’s annual showcase in February where Devorick was named VALE Artist of the Year. The sophomore music and audio & music production double major became just the third artist to receive a contract with the College’s student-run record label.

“I was glad to be named VALE’s newest artist because I had worked hard on my playing and singing for many years,” he said. 

As the VALE artist, Devorick will perform at LVC’s annual ValleyFest Friday, April 20, as an opener for We The Kings. Tickets are available here. An EP of his record Nelson’s Umbrella, which features a mixture of RnB and electro-pop, will be released during VALE's Spring Festival on Saturday, April 28 from 4-10 p.m.

Devorick, a native of Lititz, Pa., is no stranger to performing, as he is a member of the Skiffs, a band that plays in the Lancaster area. They have played venues such as the Chameleon Club where they opened for Rusted Root.

At LVC, Devorick plays upright bass in the Symphony Orchestra and piano in the Small Jazz Ensemble. One of his favorite college memories so far is the jazz ensemble’s tour to area high schools and middle schools in Pennsylvania and N.J.

Looking into his future after LVC, Devorick wants to find a job in the music field and may pursue a doctorate in music composition or theory.
