Edward D. Breen, a 10-year member of Lebanon Valley College’s Board of Trustees, recently donated $100,000 to the College to implement new technology across campus. The Breen Technology Fund will fund a student e-portfolio system, the College’s first, and technology associated with teaching and learning.

“We’re excited for this opportunity to support teaching and learning through the use of technology,” said David Shapiro, LVC director of Information Technology. “The Breen Technology Fund will enable faculty to quickly adopt emerging technology. It will also increase the positive impact technology will play in student and faculty work and research.”

Breen is chair of the Tyco Board of Directors and was the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from 2002–2012. Prior to joining Tyco, he was president and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Motorola. Breen is a member of the Comcast Corporation Board of Directors, a member of the Advisory Board of New Mountain Capital LLC, and serves on the Grove City College Board of Trustees. Breen earned his bachelor’s degree from Grove City in business administration and economics.

Breen’s generosity will help the College provide a streamlined path for faculty, administrators, and staff to access existing or new technologies with a perceived high potential of successfully improving outcomes. By releasing the funds after a competitive four-step award review process at various points throughout the academic year, Lebanon Valley will immediately assist the technological needs of recipients.

Breen has been an avid supporter of Lebanon Valley College during his decade-long tenure on the Board of Trustees.  In addition to the $100,000 Breen Technology Fund gift, he and his wife, Lynn, were major supporters of the 2010 Mund College Center revitalization, The Valley Fund, and other important College initiatives. The Breens are Lifetime Vickroy Associates of The Thomas Rhys Vickroy Society, whose members demonstrate outstanding leadership in support of the College.

Financial support of the College builds a lasting legacy for current and future students at The Valley. These gifts can fund scholarships, enhance teaching, create collaborative student-faculty research opportunities, and provide innovative equipment for our classrooms and laboratories.
