Lebanon Valley College Welcomes Newest Allwein Scholars

Lebanon Valley College welcomed Ariana Genna and Adam Petersen, two members of its Class of 2023, as prestigious John Bowman Allwein Scholars.

The Allwein Scholarship, established in 2014 through a gift from Dr. John “Jack” Bowman Allwein ’56, provides full tuition to LVC, as well as three $2,500 stipends for such academic purposes as studying abroad, experiencing internships, or conducting research. These newest recipients bring the total number of Allwein Scholarships awarded to 26.

Allwein Scholars are selected through a competitive process from among the brightest high school students who show interest in LVC. They are chosen for their academic accomplishments and leadership potential.

This year’s Allwein Scholars are:

Ariana Genna, a politics major with interest in pre-law from Newfield, N.J.—Ariana enjoyed a variety of music experiences including playing trombone in concert and jazz band and leading the alto section in the a cappella choir at Camden County Vo-Tech School. She participated in the newspaper, interact, and character education clubs. Ariana was inducted into the National Honor Society and volunteered at a local home for veterans and at an after-school tutoring program.

Ariana said, “I’m excited to meet new people and make new friends. Because I grew up in a small town, I’ve gone to school with the same people all my life. Even though that was a wonderful experience, I’m excited about this opportunity.”

Adam Petersen, an actuarial science major from York, Pa.—Adam played baseball and participated in concert band and marching band at York Suburban High School. As class valedictorian, Adam served as president of the National Honor Society and was inducted into the national English and Spanish honor societies.

Adam said he was attracted to LVC because of its academic reputation and looks forward to a career as an insurance company actuary. He’s also excited to explore some of LVC’s 90+ student clubs and organizations.

The John Bowman Allwein Scholars Program is the College’s most prestigious honor for incoming first-year students and is named in honor of the late U.S. Army veteran and well-known oral surgeon. Dr. Bowman’s legacy includes the largest estate gift to the College in its history, as well as the establishment of several additional named scholarships that support other LVC students each year.
