One Night Changed Everything for Business Alumnus

Even though he lived fewer than 30 minutes from campus, Adam Wenger ’12 did not have LVC on his list of potential colleges to attend.

“I had not considered attending LVC until my high school football coaches and cousin talked to me about the opportunities of playing football at LVC,” he said. “Once I visited campus and learned more about the business programs, saw the facilities, and met faculty and coaches, I knew LVC was right for me.”

Although he came to LVC as a way to continue his football career, Wenger’s true passion proved to be in business and accounting. 

“For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in a career in business. I was drawn to the challenge, the financial benefits, job security, and flexibility,” Wenger reflected. 

In the fall of his junior year at LVC, Wenger attended the College’s annual Accounting Night job fair and networking event that connects students with alumni and employers in the business and accounting fields. During this event, Wenger spoke with several employees from Simon Lever and quickly became interested in the company and made a note to keep in contact with the people he met from the company. That connection resulted in an internship the following spring semester. 

“The spring internship went well, and I stayed with Simon Lever through the summer and was offered a full-time position to start in the fall of 2012,” Wenger recalled. 

Over the past seven years, Wenger has grown professionally and advanced with the help of Simon Lever. In his current role as a manager, his responsibilities include building and maintaining client relationships, developing technical accounting and tax expertise, and overseeing staff and senior-level accountants. 

“I love working as a team to provide our clients high-quality service and advice that adds value to their business or personal life,” Wenger said. “One of the best compliments we receive is ‘Thank you. I do not know what we would do without you.’”

As part of his work, Wenger helps LVC’s Accounting Club as a student mentor via Handshake. Through this, he shares knowledge and advice and often provides opportunities for current LVC students. 

“Over the past eight years, Simon Lever has worked hard to build successful working relationships with the Business and Economics Department, the Breen Center, and the Athletic Department,” Wenger said. “We recognize and believe in the talented students who attend LVC. As a result, we have had success in hiring several students for internships and full-time employees.”

Wenger strives for continued growth and advancement, professionally and personally. His current goal is to advance to the principal position in the coming years. 

“I owe so much to where I am in my life to LVC. I came here for an education and left with a family,” said Wenger.
