Politics Major Receives Full-Tuition Scholarship to Drexel Law School

Politics major Caitlin Dryden ’18 will be attending the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University with a full tuition merit scholarship. A native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., Dryden is an LVC legacy student, as both her parents graduated from The Valley. Right before Commencement, Dryden shared her LVC experiences in a quick Q&A.

 

Why did you choose LVC?

I felt at home from the moment I stepped on campus at LVC. I connected with my tour guide and the people I met on my visits. 

 

How did LVC prepare you for this next step of your journey?

LVC helped me grow up. It’s where I learned to study better and focus on my schoolwork. It’s where I found my voice within politics and the law. LVC has afforded me many opportunities and internships that let me gain a multitude of experiences and explore potential career paths for the future.  

 

What internships did you have during your time at LVC?

I interned with the Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor’s Office, the Montgomery County Courthouse, and La Torre Communications. All of them gave me insight into different career paths that can be pursued with a law degree. 

 

Did you study abroad?

I went to Maastricht, Netherlands, for a summer session after my junior year. It was a really great experience and my first time out of the country. I definitely recommend it for students who have a lot of commitments throughout year that they can’t leave behind or for students who want to dip their toe into international travel. 

 

Did you have a faculty influence?

Dr. Diane Johnson was very influential. Honestly, as a freshman, I was a little intimidated by her. She really helped me become more confident and more trusting of myself and my political knowledge. She has been a good faculty role model for me at LVC and I know she will continue to be for future women and men in the politics department. Dr. Philip Benesch is my advisor and has also been a big influence in pushing me toward my future goals. Dr. Chris Dolan also helped bring me out of my shell and become more confident in global politics. The whole Politics Department is really great and I will miss them all when I’m gone. 

 

What are your plans after graduation from Drexel?

I’m not yet sure exactly what type of law I want to do, but I’d like to be in the trial advocacy realm. I’d like to be able to fight for people who aren’t necessarily in the best place to help themselves.
