Sammy Bost Chosen as NCAA Woman of the Year Conference Nominee

Lebanon Valley softball and women's soccer player Sammy Bost has been selected as the MAC Commonwealth's conference nominee for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

After initially joining 543 total female student-athletes as nominees for the award across all divisions, she has been chosen to represent the MAC Commonwealth in the next phase of the award program. Bost is one of 145 total conference nominees, one of 53 Division III student-athletes, and one of just 24 dual-sport athletes included.

 Bost recently wrapped up one of the most impressive four-year careers in school history, leading the softball team to its third conference championship game in four years. She was pegged NFCA First-Team All-Region for the fourth time, named an ECAC South Honorable Mention All-Star, and she earned her fourth MAC Commonwealth Softball All-Conference First-Team honor after winning the league's regular-season batting title. She is a three-time NFCA All-American, has twice been named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and was a top-10 finalist for the 2016 NFCA/Schutt Sports Division III Player of the Year Award. She is also the NCAA's all-time record-holder for consecutive stolen bases with 97 in a row.

On the soccer field, Bost finished her senior campaign as LVC's leading scorer with 19 goals, including four game-winners, and was named to the MAC Commonwealth All-Conference First-Team for the third time in her career. She is a three-time NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second-Team pick, a two-time ECAC South All-Star, and a MAC Sportsmanship Team honoree.

Bost (softball, women's soccer) is the only student-athlete in school history to earn three first-team academic all-America honors. She joins JD Byers '05 (men's basketball, men's golf), Cynthia Adams '14, DPT'16 (women's cross country, women's track & field), and Kelsey Patrick '16 (women's cross country, women's track & field) as the only LVC student-athletes to earn academic all-America honors on three occasions.

Each year, the NCAA encourages schools to honor its top graduating female student-athletes by submitting them for consideration for its woman of the year award. Conferences assess each nominee's eligibility and select a conference nominee. All conference nominees are forwarded to the NCAA's Woman of the Year selection committee. From there, 30 honorees are chosen – ten from each division.

The committee then determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select from the final nine to choose the 2017 Woman of the Year.

The 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award winner will be announced, and the top 30 honorees celebrated, at the organization's annual award ceremony in Indianapolis in October. Bost is the most recent Dutchman to be nominated for the honor after women's track & field's Cynthia Adams Harnish '14, DPT '16 was the last to be recognized in 2015.
