Significant Changes to ValleyFest, “We The Kings” to Perform

Students and community members attend a day-stage performance

This year’s ValleyFest will bring significant changes to the weekend schedule, which features American rock band, “We The Kings,” as the headlining artist.

In the past, the day festival was held on a Saturday followed by the concert that night. This year, the concert will take place on Friday, April 20, followed by Dutchmen Day, and the day festival will be held Sunday, April 22.

“We made the change primarily because the Saturday of ValleyFest weekend always fell on Lebanon Day of Caring,” said Jessica Zeiner ’18, ValleyFest president. “We opted to have events scheduled so our students could participate in ValleyFest and Lebanon Day of Caring. Moreover, by moving the food and art festival to Sunday, we hope this will enable additional community members to experience what ValleyFest is all about.”

Nine executive board members and 30 committee members of ValleyFest come together to plan the event and ensure success on both days.

“I think I am most excited to see the turnout at our event,” Zeiner said. “We work hard and do the absolute best we can with the funds we have and the money we raise to be able to put this show on and make the day festival happen.”

This year, ValleyFest surveyed the student body via Twitter and at the Activities Fair to pick a favorite genre. The genres that obtained the most votes were country and pop/rock.

The ValleyFest committee was excited to announce “We The Kings” as this year’s artist.

“We the Kings” is currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of their self-titled album and are most known for their hits “Check Yes Juliet” and “We’ll Be a Dream.”

“I'm so excited that ‘We The Kings’ was selected as the ValleyFest artist,” said Alexa Bash, a junior digital communications major. “Their songs put me in a great mood and I think a lot of people will attend because ‘We the Kings’ are well-known. I can't wait to see them live for the first time at ValleyFest.”

Singer and University of Miami student, Gina Abraczinskas, is set to open for the band.

The “Check Yes Juliet” singers are set to perform on Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. Student tickets can be bought for $10 online or in person. Community tickets are available for $25.
