Student Work Shines During Annual Inquiry Celebration

Academic accomplishments, creative work, and other scholarly achievements marked the celebration of Lebanon Valley College’s annual Inquiry event. Each April, the College turns its attention to recitals, honor society inductions, creative writing readings, and our annual Inquiry Symposium. 

At this year’s Symposium, approximately 150 students presented their academic work and research, regarding off-campus studies, internships, and other immersive experiences. Below are just a few examples of the incredible displays. View a full list of presenters here.

• Science presentations included research on neuroblastoma cells, iron deficiency, and plant-biofuel cells. 

• History students utilized unique approaches to studies on the European Union, women in World War II, and the Holocaust.

• Business students shared their capstone experiences.

• Digital communications students created companies and products.

 

For the second consecutive year, the College welcomed guest judges from area companies and research centers who evaluated projects in Digital Communications, Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. The judges rated the quality of research methodology, analysis, and presentation, electing the top three presenters in each category. View the full list of winners here.

Prior to the Symposium, students received departmental honors in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities during an award ceremony.

Inquiry featured more than a dozen honor society inductions, including Phi Alpha Epsilon with nearly 40 students recognized for their academic success and commitment to community service, and more than 150 students welcomed into the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. Numerous other students were inducted into a wide variety of honor societies across disciplines, including in the sciences, humanities, mathematics, and languages.

Notes of music floated through campus all month long as many of the campus ensembles and choirs demonstrated their talent with spring performances. Also during Inquiry, the Department of Religion and Philosophy held its Undergraduate Research Symposium, this year themed around the Apostle Paul, and the Department of Art & Visual Culture hosted an Intercollegiate Art History Symposium with students from numerous colleges around the area sharing their work.
