Achieve More with an Academic Success Specialist
In addition to our Academic Support programs, including peer, writing, and organizational tutoring, students also can work with an academic success specialist on a weekly, bi-weekly, or one-off basis. The academic success specialist is a professional staff member who mentors students by designing and implementing an individualized plan for academic success.
Learn Valuable and Transformative Skills
Through these coaching sessions, students work with the academic success specialist to improve skills that may not be taught in the classroom. Some examples of these focus areas are:
- Effective Time Management
- Study Skills and Note-taking
- Organization
- Stress Management
- Self-Motivation
- Goal-setting
- Critical Reading
- Test Preparation and Test-taking
- Self-care
I improved as a student immensely knowing I had someone supporting me and rooting for me outside my family and department. These meetings contributed to my academic success because I was able to talk through study strategies with Hannah and learn study issues that I could avoid in the future.

Schedule through Handshake
Log into Handshake OR download the Handshake App on your mobile device.
- Click on Career Center in the top right-hand corner
- Choose Appointments from the drop-down menu
- Click Schedule a New Appointment
- Choose your Category: FR, SO, JR, or SR
- Choose an Appointment Type: CAS-Academic Success Meeting
- Using the arrows, toggle through the days of the week to display available days/times
- Once you have identified a day and time that works for your schedule, click on that block to open the appointment
- Type your message in the “what can we help you with?” text box
- Click the green Request button
