Tips for Transitioning to Remote Learning for LVC students

LVC’s Licensed Professional Counselor Jim Felty’s tips for a successful transition to remote learning: Know that we are here to support you.

  1. Commit to a study schedule: Set up a calendar and carve out time each day dedicated to your studies, research, reading, and coursework. Setting a firm schedule will help you avoid being distracted by Netflix, video games, and the like. Save these stress relief activities until your college work is done.
  2. Create a dedicated study space that you make your own so it becomes the “new norm.” Find a quiet, comfortable place that’s available to match your study schedule. Your brain will identify that place as your workplace, and it will shift into study mode when you are there.
  3. Communicate: Share your study schedule and space with the people you live with. Let them know how important this is for you, and that you are unavailable during your study schedule.
  4. Accountability: Experience shows that when we are accountable to peers, we are more likely to achieve our goals. Regularly connect with classmates via digital tools to share study plans and help each other gauge progress. Work together for mutual success.
  5. Use LVC Resources: Everyone who works at LVC is here for you and takes personal pride in helping you succeed. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Call or email any of us in IT, Academic Success, Accessibility Resources, Bishop Library, Breen, Counseling Services, and others.
